[ Reserved | Introverted | Determined | Hard-working ]

Quiet and reserved, Lynnea appears to be an unfeeling and cynical young lady. She is not fond of being with others and often keeps to herself. She prefers talking to animals rather than people, making her a bit queer and seeming to be purposely warding people away. Not fond of even small conversations, she becomes greatly uncomfortable in a crowd and would slip away given a chance to. Because of this, it is very hard for her to trust people and she would oftentimes appear bashful upon long conversations. Under very rare circumstances of trusting others, Lynnea can be rather attached and affectionate. It is not in words but actions, and she would do her best to make her loved one happy though it is very difficult for her to express herself.

Having been surrounded by animals and pets since childhood, she grew fondness of nature and loves to be outside, finding pleasure in feeling the cold breeze and smelling the scent of flowers. She doesn’t like being kept inside no matter how harsh the weather is out; if she wants to go, she will go. She deeply cares about living creatures and would nurse them if they are hurt, feed them if they hunger. Though it would seem rather strange, due to this, she could stand conversations with children, and is the only time she would feel comfortable talking to a person.

Regarding responsibilities, Lynnea is very hard-working and determined. Once she sets her mind to something, she will do everything in her power to achieve that goal, no matter how long it would take her. For this reason she is not entirely motivated by deadlines, paying importance to the result rather than the time and effort she spends. It doesn’t help that she sets high standards for everything and enough is never quite enough, oftentimes trying to exceed herself in comparison to her previous goals. As a solitary person, she seeks to improve herself and the world around her, rather than trying to start by socializing with others.

“I found you!”

Followed by three small knocks on the wooden door, the young girl called out. “Here!” she said, “Here!”
In a hurry ever since she arrived at her uncle’s house she had ran up the stairs and towards a room at the far end of the halls, claiming there were strange friends inviting her to play the moment she had entered the household. ‘Found you!’ she called out once more as she continued to knock again and again with her small hands. Behind her came a tall man whose coat was straight as a flat board as the young girl would describe. He had emerald-like eyes and blonde hair that would have draped over his forehead and his tinted cheeks if it weren’t for it being brushed back and as neat as his coat. “Uncle,” the girl pulled on the man’s hand and placed it around the door’s knob. “Open!” A brief pause, “Please?”
“The little Missus knows just how to ask from her favorite uncle, hm?” The girl’s father placed a hand on the other’s back as he opened the door just as the girl requested. Immediately as the gap was enough for her to fit in, she ran inside the room, tripping on her small feet before getting up. Raising her chin, she could only blink twice as she saw a boy across the room sitting by the window. He wasn’t who she was looking for, but he shined like the sun.

“Ah, there he is.” Her father exclaimed.

There was a moment of silence in the room until the blonde man spoke to his son, “Maybe it’s time for you to come out of your room.”

“Perfect,” gesturing to the young girl, her father continued, “You should play with Claude while Father and Uncle are talking, alright, Lynnea?”

Enthusiastically, the girl nodded as the two adults left the room, closing the door behind them. The only thing that remained after was silence and the curious eyes of the young girl who only stood as everything around her seemed to be still and lifeless save for that boy. The little footsteps came closer to the quiet young lad, stopping just in front of him as she looked him with her quaint, round, eyes.

Taking his hand in hers, she curtsied as a greeting and then smiled, “Your eyes shine.”

And the long afternoons of fun and play started from there on. The lass could only care about the ‘playmates’ inside and outside the house, always visiting to see them while her father talked to her uncle about business matters which she couldn’t care about. They always left her with the equally strange but quiet boy Claude, whom they say would be the one who she will spend her life with when the time comes—not that she understands this as a young girl. At first she didn’t pay much attention to Claude but he always took care of her—eventually becoming more comfortable with each other’s company as they have quaintness that others did not understand. They could see them; them who came in different size and appearance; them who came with different characters and faces; them who others did not see. This was what they shared day in and day out, and this was Lynnea’s fondest memories of laughter and bliss.

She was cheerful and full of enthusiasm as expected from a child who sees many wonders. It wasn’t until she reached the age of finding her social identity that she had realized that these wonders made her different from others. Different, that other children her age wouldn’t dare near her, sometimes to the point of driving her away because she was strange, delusional, insane. By this time, the appearance of her ‘friends’ lessened until they appeared no more. Withdrawing from the world, the cheerful and energetic girl waned and vanished, only leaving a quiet and lifeless girl. It made schooling very difficult for her, but she coped with the help of Claude who stayed with her through the years. In him she finds consolation, and she needed no words; his presence in itself comforted her dull world
once full of colors and wonders… but that was more than enough.

Eventually, the familiar feeling of endearment and attachment towards the boy changed first into confusion and finally, love. This feeling especially manifested when Lynnea stepped into high school. Claude was already in college, and though he was busier, they spent more time with each other. The lad seemed happy about his studies and this encouraged her to do her best as well until she graduated. Above all things, she wanted to be deserving of the man she will spend her life with.

But one afternoon, she found herself sitting across the young man. Her hands clasped to each other as she looked down on the white tablecloth that draped down the floor.

“Will it make you happy?” She asked. Her stoic expression stayed as she raised her head up to look at him. His eyes still shined; they weren’t as vibrant as before. The young man only responded with a nod, as he returned her gaze.

Claude was leaving.

It was time for Claude accomplish his thesis, and she knew how important education was—over personal desires. Though being left should have pushed her to socialize with other people, she became more withdrawn and unenthusiastic and this led to negative response from the other students around her. This was especially because they were amidst their Sophomore years in college and the courses were getting harder for all. Often, she would do her group projects alone, or if required to, some groups would reluctantly accept her—but not without special conditions. Unconsciously, this led her to dislike people in such a way as refusing to be with them. There were a lot of times she would’ve given up, but Claude was still there. He called everyday even after he arrived in America. She hopes the man doesn’t notice, but each time he called, she was always in the verge of tears when she asks him repeatedly, ‘When will you be home?’

… but the phone calls did not come as often as she wanted it to, after a few months into the long-distance relationship. The phone conversations were very short as well when they did come, and for her, it seemed as she were but a bother to the man. She felt the need to see him but she couldn’t do anything about it even if she desired to. She needed to finish her studies to be deserving of him—but these thoughts were just to comfort herself and loneliness did not help save her from her mind.

What if he doesn’t want to come back?

Everyday became even more unbearable as they passed. Tired of ostracism and cynical looks, she entirely closed people off. And that’s when they started to appear again. The wonders that used to color her childhood appeared to her little by little; first like white shadows and faint figures until they appeared to her as she remembered them. Such irony; the things that made people think she was out of her mind were the only things that kept her sane. Bearing the rest of her college years with just the company of mystical spirits, she immediately travelled to America after graduation without much thought. If he won’t come back, then she would come to him.

And the small knocks on the door were like as they were before. She entered.

“I found you,” she whispered to herself, as she looked at the boy who seemed to have changed but at the same time unchanging. His eyes still shined.

“Why don’t you go home with me?”

There was a long silence, “Because I need to be elsewhere.” With his bag packed for Basildon, he responded. To the girl, it did not matter where he was going as she long as she was with him. The wait has been too long.

“I will come with you.”
