Ma-kun appears as a bad-tempered, ill-mouthed rabbit who doesn’t care about anyone or anything but the cleanliness of the Brigade. He doesn’t like being surrounded by people and chooses not to be noticed or known for the belief that there is no need to be remembered. He always seems to complain about the state of things in the Brigade and tends to come off awfully stressing about every little thing—clearly always over-thinking. He is very hard-working and dedicated to do his work. Because of this, it would seem like he is not interested in anything else but his work, making him appear uptight and his life, dull. He takes pride in all his years spent on doing what he does now. Hence, he doesn’t like depending on people or even being assisted by his subordinates as he wants things done his own way—he has very little faith that people will do it right.

Under the cover of his usually unfriendly expression is a kind man who, in fact, cares a lot about the people who are in his ‘home’, no matter how much of an ass they are and no matter what past they had. He is very attentive of others first by the fact that he grew up with his mother and got used to caring about people; second because he grew up in the Brigade, saw it as his only home and simply can’t stop caring about the people he would call a ‘family’. Even though he seems unwilling to help, in the end, he just can’t stand watching people struggle, no matter how big or small the struggle may be.

Ma-kun is not fond of being around people but that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t exactly like having them. With his quite hectic schedule of juggling between work and taking care of the brigade, it is very hard for him to make relations, moreover if it was a personal one. But to those who he managed to be comfortable with, he shows his more laid-back side—if it were the most laid-back he could be—and shows that he actually knows how to smile. However, even with those people, he finds it very difficult to express himself, often doing things out of his way to try to communicate his feelings.

“So… you’re leaving again, huh?”

“Make sure you come back.”

The boy always watched that man’s back as he counted the steps he made before the echoes of his footsteps faded into the empty halls. That was his fondest memories of that man, the man whom he called ‘Father’.

As a child, Mathiu knew nothing but the life inside the brigade. Rabbits come and go every day, and whether they come back or not, it was one thing that he did not want to remember. Being one of the only few children who were born in the brigade, he made sure he did his duties as a resident. He only has to make sure their home was well-maintained as the adults do the harder part of the jobs such as going out for errands. It was the life he grew up in—where everything were just work or extra chores; everyone did their part to help each other, just like a big family.

Mathiu’s parents were one of those rabbits who ‘did the harder part of the jobs’. Both were assassins—but the only thing that meant to the child was that they had to leave the brigade more often, unlike the doctors and the most cleaners. As a duo, they always went together and the child always waited for when they get home. Because there were very few children his age, Mathiu often went out on his own quests to break free from such a tense and busy atmosphere in the Brigade. With these little quests, he reached near and far the brigade, knowing his way around the parts of the city which was nearest to him (though it was generally just the outskirts). He’d often come across other rabbits and sometimes, humans who happen to pass by. As his father always told him to be wary around humans, he made sure to keep away from them, often running away as the first choice upon meeting them. Through these little quests did he meet a young girl around his age. It was just a chance meeting, but this girl easily got attached to him, to the point of even giving him a nickname which he uses until now.

The days were but a routine to him, until one day, his parents didn’t come back as how they used to. There were nights when they didn’t come home, but when they do, they were always together. That wasn’t the case, however, that day. The doctors gathered around the boy’s mother as they attended to her. Being a child, he couldn’t go pass through the adults and was forced outside the room. Mother came alone. That man whose footsteps he always counted… he was nowhere to be found.

Even after his mother recovered, she was forced to use a wheelchair to be able to move around. His father never came back. But his mother always smiled though there was something awkward about it.

“We can leave this place, if it makes you sad,” the boy told her. She only responded with a shake of her head, and that never-fading smile on her face.

“He’ll find a way back.”

And with that, that boy faded through the years. He continued to work in the brigade to be able to earn enough money for them to be able to leave, in hopes that in time, his mother would be willing to leave that place. He did not understand why she wanted to stay, but as time passed and as he became one of those who had ‘more responsibility’, he had learned to care more for others, and to see them again as his family.

    R E L A T I O N S H I P S

Kuu-chan – Probably the one who is closest to him. She is a very special someone as Ma-kun grew up with her. They are very comfortable with each other. He always looks out for her and becomes overly-protective.

Jiska – Ma-kun thinks of her as one of his closest friends. He thinks she is strange but he trusts her so much and is probably the only one Ma-kun will ask help from. Around Jiska can he only be truly relaxed and carefree.

Sven – Ma-kun treats Sven as a little brother due to his mother’s claim that Sven is also her son. He makes sure he is safe and sound and comfortable and healthy and—Ma-kun overthinks Sven’s welfare to the point of exceeding maternal concern.

Vanilla – A young rabbit who always teases him. Though she used to make a mess of the brigade, she is one of the people Ma-kun has a need to protect and watch over.

Alma – A total disaster. Ma-kun doesn’t trust Alma as a cleaner even though she does her job well. He feels that he has to watch over every step and move that Alma will make. He thinks of her like a walking apocalypse.

Diesel – An old friend. He is the first friend Ma-kun ever had in the brigade even though he used to wreck it to pieces. He just hopes that he is living his life wherever he is now.

Euca – Ma-kun’s mother. He recognizes her superiority and danger in everything. Even Ma-kun couldn’t read pass her unnerving smile.

    Everyone else – Ungrateful rabbits, trouble-makers, war-freaks
